Ikebana (Flower Arranging) Demonstration

Free for registered accompanying persons. Registered delegates are also welcomed as long as seats are available.
Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging that has flourished since the sixteenth century. Its origin is said to date from the sixth century when Buddhist priests offered up flowers before Buddha. There are several schools of ikebana. The Ohara School was founded in 1912 by Unshin Ohara who had been with the Ikenobo School. Mrs. Ingrid Luders, a grand master of the Ohara School and the Past President of the North American Ohara Teachers Association will present several works to the participants. She has been involved in ikebana for 40years. Those who love flowers, who want to start understanding ikebana, and who would enjoy a friendly and relaxing presentation are welcomed. |

Ikebana Practice Session

Mrs. Ingrid Luders will teach ikebana. Materials and tools will be provided.

Calligraphy Lesson and Practice

Mrs. Kazuko Fujiwara, Professor of Calligraphy, and a member of the award-winning Kyoto Association of Calligraphy Artists will teach how to enjoy Japanese calligraphy. It might be possible to ask the teacher to write some words for you if time allows. Brushes, ink and paper will be provided.

Chanoyu (Japanese Tea Ceremony)

Mrs. Masako Kaji, Teacher of the Sekishu style of tea ceremony, and her friends will teach how to make Japanese tea (matcha). If your time is limited, you can simply sample some Japanese tea and sweets.
Free for registered accompanying persons. Registered delegates are also welcomed as long as seats are available. You can just come in and enjoy teas and sweets, but the service will be stopped when we run out of sweets. |
