Society for the Japanese Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Awards
Establishment of Award Protocol
The Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology was first established as the Freezing and Desiccation Study Group in 1959 and was renamed in 1994. The Society celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009. In the last five decades, the Society has made significant contributions in various fields with the aim of promoting basic and applied studies in low temperature, freezing and drying using organisms and organism-related entities as study materials, as well as contributing to the development of technologies in related science fields.
With the expectation that the role of the Society will increase in importance and the Society will therefore grow accordingly, and to support the further development of our activities, an award system was initiated. The following awards were first conferred in 2009, the year of the 50th anniversary:
- The Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Award (Society Award)
- The Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Young Scientist Award (Young Scientist Award)
Also in 2009, the following award was added on a trial basis:
- The Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Best Presentation Award (BP Award)
First established: June 26, 2010
Revised: July 6, 2011
Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology
Rules for Selection of Award Recipients
(First established on June 26, 2010)
(Revised on July 6, 2013)
- The Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology (the Society) has established the Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Award (Society Award) and the Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Honorable Award (Honorable Award). Studies presented at an annual meeting or a seminar of the Society or those published in Cryobiology and Cryotechnology shall be eligible for the awards.
- The Society Award shall be given to a current or past member of the Society who has accomplished an outstanding research outcome in the field of cryobiology or cryotechnology. The Honorable Award shall be given to a younger member of the Society (less than 40 years of age on April 1st of the year the award is presented) who has presented outstanding research in the field of cryobiology or cryotechnology and shows a promising future as a scientist in the field. (The recipient of the Honorable Award is limited to current members of the Society.)
- The selection of the award recipients shall be made based on nominations by Society members. A member may nominate his/herself as a candidate.
- The Japanese Society for Cryobiology and Cryotechnology Award Selection Committee (The Selection Committee) shall be organized based on the Society Regulations. Each year, the Selection Committee shall chose one candidate for each award and shall report the results to the President. (The committee may choose a smaller or larger number of candidates.)
- The President shall report the information of the candidates to the General Council and Council, which shall discuss the report. Upon receiving authorization from the General Council and Council, the President shall make a final decision on the recipients.
