C. Group for supporting research using biospecimen

  • C-1. Ultra-sensitive molecular pathological analysis using biological samples, construction of multicenter collaborative research network, and support for multilayered omics analysis
  • C-2. Support for multilayered omics and information analysis using biological samples
  • C-3. Support for accumulation and provision of human biological samples (tissue and blood samples) and background information, and support in pathological morphology
  • C-4. Support for hematological malignancy bioresources

Overview

The group for supporting research using biospecimen will support the promotion of and the transition to applied studies of, studies across all areas of life sciences that are based on a systematic understanding of vivo molecular dynamics in humans, by providing support for analysis that use biospecimens and by providing human biospecimens.

Support related to analysis of and techniques for in vivo molecular dynamics and biomarkers using human biospecimens:

Mainly through the support for "Ultra-sensitive molecular pathological analysis using biological samples and construction of multicenter collaborative research network" and "Support for multilayered omics and information analysis using biological samples," we will, subject to appropriate ethical management and division of roles, provide support for analysis as requested with respect to biofunctional molecules, biomarkers, etc. that are being analyzed by applicant researchers, through support for ultra-sensitive molecular pathological analysis or various types of omics analysis (such as digital PCR, next-generation sequencing, various transcriptome analyses, various proteomics analyses, tissue microarray analysis of 13 cancer types, and single-cell analysis) using a variety of biospecimens associated with accurate background information held by our group. We will also provide support for construction of multicenter collaborative research networks and support for education on various molecular analysis techniques.

Support related to collection and provision of human biospecimens:

Mainly through the "Support for accumulation and provision of human biological samples (tissue and blood samples) and background information" and "Support for hematological malignancy bioresources," we will provide, subject to appropriate ethical management and division of roles, paraffin-embedded tissue and frozen tumor tissue samples, blood serum and plasma samples, and samples from HTLV-1 infected subjects, all mainly from cancer-related patients (we have a total of approximately 130,000 samples). We will also provide support in pathological morphology by pathologists for research specimens.

Requests for consultation on support for analysis or support by provision of biospecimens are always welcome. Successful topics will be chosen by examination. Our acceptance of a topic for support does not constitute a promise that research results will be produced, or samples or support will be provided within a certain period of time. Depending on the content of the support, the progress of the support recipient's research, the support recipient's experience in research using clinical specimens, the status of ethical review process, the status of the support recipient's cooperation in our activities necessary for support, and/or the progress of analysis and its evaluation results, we may need extra time before providing support or may discontinue support.
