データ不備は元論文じゃないの？

Hypertension Researchという日本高血圧学会の英文誌に掲載された論文に対するコメントのやりとりです。
解析されているデータに不備があったので、
"According to the patient numbers and the values presented in Figure 5,
uLFABP had been measured only in a part of the participants
(at most 6 out of 20) from both Feb and Ben groups, which had different baseline uLFABP levels.
The difference would have reflected renal impairment, and the effect of renal impairment needs to be considered in the analyses. "
というデータ解析に問題があるという内容を含んだコメントを書き、
Cover letterにも
"Numbers of patients with urinary liver-type fatty acid binding protein measurement would be too few to obtain any conclusion, and potential effect of renal impairment needs to be considered in the analysis."
と内容の不備を指摘するコメントを投稿しました。
このようにデータ解析に問題がある場合は、そのコメントを掲載するのが
科学雑誌としての一般的な対応です。
しかし、査読者からのコメントは以下で掲載拒否でした！

The discussion does not seem fruitful because the number of study subjects was small.”
対象の数が少なすぎて、論争として意味がとぼしい？
という返答です。
「対象の数が少ない」のは元論文の問題で、それが問題って指摘してるんだから、
査読者も指摘内容に同意してるってことじゃないの？？？
査読者も「対象の数が少ないことが問題」と同意しているのだから、結果の信憑性に乏しいことは
読者に知らせるべきと以下のように反論したのですが、コメントは掲載されませんでした。
"I think that the discussion would be suitable for publication in your journal as a “Correspondence”, if the reviewer agrees with the comment in the discussion; the study (Hypertens Res 2017; 40: 259-263) had some flaws to support the conclusion of the study. I believe the manuscript will attract wide attention and be of interest to the readership in your journal."
ちなみに、対象となった論文は、上に記載されているように
Hypertens Res 2017; 40: 259-263
です。
