Platform of Supporting Cohort Study and Biospecimen Analysis
Support Categories
Support for cohort study using bioresources
Support for providing the biospecimen as a control group in a case-control study |
We provide serum and/or plasma of individuals from a population-based cohort. who are alive and not diagnosed as cancer for at least 5 years of the follow-up survey. Please provide us the study design and information such as sample conditions to be selected, amount of serum or plasma, number of cases, phenotypes of individuals and other criteria prior to application. Please contact us through the request form at the home page to speed up the review process. |
Support for providing the biospecimen from the incident case for the early cancer diagnosis marker accuracy verification |
We provide the biospecimens of cancer incidence case (appear symptoms less than 2-3 years after starting the follow-up survey). Due to the limited number of the samples from the specified cancer part which satisfy the conditions, please make sure that the markers have obtained a certain level of sensitivity and specificity tested with clinical samples. |
Support relating to analysis of the genotype and the phenotype including blood test data |
We provide genotyping data of 14,000 individuals (500,000 SNPs by typing and 6,000,000 SNPS by imputation analysis of GWAS) and their phenotype data. Please refer to the website (http://www.jmicc.com/snpstudy/) for details. |
Cross-sectional studies using the baseline data from J-MICC Study |
We may accept proposals of cross-sectional studies using the baseline data of about 92,000 participants in a large cohort study (J-MICC Study). The available data include questionnaire data on lifestyles, nutrient intakes estimated by the food frequency method, and health checkup data (anthropometric measurements and blood tests). |
Cross-sectional studies using the SNP array data from J-MICC Study |
We may accept proposals of cross-sectional studies using the SNP array data of about 14,000 participants in a large cohort study (J-MICC Study). The SNP array data can be used for the candidate approach (by extracting specific SNP data from the array data) as well as GWAS. Questionnaire data, estimated nutrient intakes, and health checkup data are also available. |
Cohort studies using the follow-up data from J-MICC Study |
We may accept proposals of cohort studies using the questionnaire data, estimated nutrition intake data, various medical checkup data, as well as follow-up data (mortality and cancer incidence) of the entire J-MICC Study cohort. Mortality data are available for about 92,000 participants and cancer incidence data are available for about 78,000 participants. In addition, SNP array data are available for about 14,000 participants. |

Support for providing brain resources and its application
Support for constructing brain resources |
We constructed Japanese Brain Bank Network for Neuroscience Research funded by Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. We have three principles: open resources, registry system for the brain bank during the lifetime, and quality control of the resources to provide them to the researchers. The main aim is to provide postmortem brain tissue to biomedical researchers. |
Support for investigating brain resources |
We are collecting postmortem brain and spinal cord resources associated with extremely high quality of diagnosis by the Japanese Neuropathological Society, which meet the NIH standard of the brain bank resources, USA. For this purpose, JBBNNR is under the supervision of the Japanese Neuropathological Society in collection, storage and management of biomedical resources. JBBNNR has two advantages: 1) Large numbers of normal human brain resources are available in addition to the brain affected by various diseases. 2) Brain resources are associated with pathophysiological information of whole-body autopsy. Our mission is to support the applicant’s research by providing the most appropriate resources based on the online discussion with our specialists and enhancing the quality of the neurological science in Japan. |
Others |
We will accept discussion and application at any time, including that of the period of support. Please feel free to contact us for requesting tissues of peripheral nervous system in addition to the brain tissues. |
Support for biospecimen and biomedical analysis
Support for analyzing supersensitive molecular pathobiology system using biospecimen, constructing a network among relevant research institutions, and integrative omics analysis |
We conduct supersensitive molecular pathobiological analysis and the various omics analyses for characterizing the bioactive molecules biomarkers of applicant’s interest using large numbers of biomedical specimens from patients, such as tissues, plasma, serum, DNA and RNA, associated with their precise clinical information. Analytical tools we can provide include digital PCR system, next generation sequencing, various types of transcriptomics and proteomics analyses, and microarray analysis of representative cancers from 13 organs. We also support to provide opportunity for learning a variety of molecular analytical tools and to construct a network among relevant research institutions. |
Support for analyzing data on integrative omics using biospecimens |
We conduct multiple omics analyses using our various human biospecimens with the precise background clinical information for the bio-active molecules and biomarkers of the applicant’s interest. |
Support for collecting and providing human biomedical specimens (tissues and blood specimen) and its background information |
We collect, store and provide biomedical specimens such as frozen tumor tissues, paraffin-embedded tissues, blood plasma, blood serum, and DNA obtained from cancer patients. We also support pathological diagnosis of biomedical specimens by the expert pathologists. |
Support for providing bioresources of hematologic malignancy |
We collect, store and provide bioresources of hematologic malignancy (mainly blood plasma, blood serum and DNA) obtained from HTLV-1 infected individuals/patients to the researchers. We also provide the copy numbers of viruses and additional molecular information of plasm/serum samples. |
Others |
We are open for discussions about the cutting-edge analysis, biospecimen, basic data, and networking among the cooperative institutions for expanding their high-level research. We also accept any request in the planning stage. |
Support for biomedical data analysis
Support for analyzing extensive omics data |
We provide support for omics data analysis using biomaterials in the cohort studies and case and control studies. These include filtering and imputation of the data from DNA microarray analyses, data analyses of the next generation sequencing, genome wide association studies, and association studies in the gene and environment interaction. |
Support for analyzing medical big data |
We provide support for analyses of medical big data obtained from cohort studies and clinical studies. These include identification of risk factors and evaluation of therapeutic outcome using the data from electrical medical record, health insurance claims, and certification of care need. |
