Welcome Message
It is a great honor for me to chair the 5th Congress of the Asian Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition, to be held in July 2026. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and sincerely look forward to welcoming colleagues from Japan and around the world.
Surgery is often regarded as a discipline defined by operative techniques. However, true excellence in surgery extends far beyond the operating room. Perioperative care, nutritional management, metabolic control, and a thorough understanding of the body's response to surgical stress are essential components that directly influence patient outcomes.
With this understanding, the main theme of this congress is:
"The Essence of Surgical Science Lies in Metabolism and Nutrition"
This congress will be held jointly with the 63rd Congress of the Japanese Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition, providing a unique opportunity for international and Japanese participants to share perspectives, exchange ideas, and deepen collaboration in the field of surgical metabolism and nutrition. The meeting also aims to foster meaningful discussion and promote the integration of basic science and clinical practice. We particularly encourage the active participation of young surgeons and researchers, whose ideas and enthusiasm will shape the future of surgical metabolism and nutrition.
I hope this congress will help redefine the essence of surgery as comprehensive, patient-centered, and firmly grounded in metabolic science. I look forward to welcoming you to this memorable congress.

Professor Kaibori

the Japanese Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition
