Greeting from the Chairman

The Mihara Cerebrovascular Disorder Research Promotion Fund, Charitable Trust, was established in 1981 via the will of the late Dr. Hiroshi Mihara in an urgent need for establishing and promoting basic and clinical studies of cerebrovascular disorders in Japan. The Mihara Award provides research grants to researchers in Japan and abroad, engaged in their own respective research fields relating to cerebrovascular disorders, in anticipation of further progress in medical sciences and human welfare.

Dr. Akira Tamura resigned as the chairman of the Steering Committee, and I have taken on this important task as the new chairman. Following the will of the late Dr. Hiroshi Mihara, we would like to devote ourselves to the management of this fund with the basic policy of selecting research grants, i.e., the Mihara Award, that will surely contribute to the clinical treatment of cerebrovascular disorders directly or indirectly, regardless of whether research is basic or clinical.

As stated in the application procedure, the Mihara Award provides grants to support the implementation of the individual and specific sustainable research plans of researchers who have made remarkable achievements in basic and clinical research on cerebrovascular disorders. The Mihara Award will be administered in such a way as not to overlook any budding research that might appear to be purely basic research but that could blossom in the future as a form of welfare for patients with cerebrovascular disorders.

I would like to add that, although the Mihara Award was originally selected based on an evaluation of the past research activities and achievements of the recommended persons, it has now become a research grant where selection is based primarily on future research plans. Therefore, we would like to invite recommendations for excellent researchers, including young researchers and female researchers.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Tamura for the long-time commitments and contribution that he has provided to the management of the Mihara Fund, and we ask you for your continuous support in the years to come.

Sincerely,

Nobuo Araki,
Chairman of the Mihara Cerebrovascular Disorder Research Promotion Fund
