Joruney to Svartis Gracier (Norway)

Summer 2000

Svartis Glacier is located in the northern part of Norway, just over the north polar circle. The word Svartis means Black Ice in Norwagean. Actually, the color of the glacier is beautiful blue, rather than black.

It was a long way to reach Svartis Glacier. First, I took a night train from Stockholm, Sweden to Narvik, Norway. Then, I took a rent-a-car and drove to south via Bodo, however it took two days to reach there.

Still, the landscapes on the way, and the glacier itself, were nothing but magnificient. It was not an easy journey, however worth while taking it.

The trip was at the end of May, so the mountain landscape was still like that of winter, and coasts are already that of early summer. Therefore, I could see the transition of the seasons while I move around.

Here, I would like to introduce some pictures from the journey.
