Information for Authors

Manuscripts reporting in the fields of clinical or experimental cardiovascular research, and case reports are accepted. Manuscripts must conform to the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (ICMJE Recommendations).

Previous Publication: Submission of a manuscript to the International Heart Journal implies that the article is original and that no portion (including figures or tables) is under consideration elsewhere or has been previously published in any language in any form other than as an abstract. Previous publication includes publishing as a component of symposia, proceedings, transactions, books or chapters, articles published by invitations or reports of any kind, as well as in electronic databases of a public nature.

Copyright: Copyright will be transferred to the International Heart Journal Association upon the acceptance of a manuscript for publication. Each author must read and sign the statements on Copyright Transfer. For further information, see our Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) form. We cannot accept any additional co-authors after the manuscript has been accepted. Please make sure that you include all co-authors in the revision process.

Permission for Reproduction: Permission must be obtained from the copyright holders for every reproduced figure and table. It is the responsibility of the submitting author(s) to obtain the permission in advance by themselves. Proper citation must be clearly displayed in the figure/table legends.

Ethics: When reporting experiments on human subjects, indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional). The participants' informed consent should be obtained and indicated in the article. When reporting experiments on animals, indicate whether institutional or national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals were followed.

Submission: All manuscripts must be submitted electronically    Online Submission   . Please upload your manuscript files as non-PDF files. After you upload your manuscript files, your manuscript will undergo a conversion process. Before approving submission, please check the converted PDF files thoroughly.

Disclosure: Authors should disclose at the time of submission any financial arrangement they may have with a company whose product figures prominently in the submitted manuscript or with a company making a competing product.

Manuscript Form: Manuscripts should be written in English with double spacing with liberal margins to a maximun of 6,000 words. The total number of tables and figures is limited to 8. Pages should be numbered consecutively beginning with the title page.
Original Articles
1.The first page must include (1) complete title of the manuscript with or without a subtitle, (2) name(s) of author(s) followed by the highest academic degree such as MD, PhD, or MSc, (3) department(s) and institution(s) of origin, (4) a running title not to exceed 50 letters including spaces, (5) sources of grants, if any, (6) name and address of the corresponding author, and (7) the total numbers of tables and figures.
2.The second page should contain a concise summary not to exceed 250 words and up to 10 key words or short phrases not used in the title.
3.The introduction to the manuscript, unlabeled, should provide a brief statement of the specific topic under study and its relation to the field with which the subject is concerned. Following the introduction, original articles should, as a general rule, be organized with the following headings: Methods, Results, Discussion and, if necessary, Conclusion. The Methods should contain explicit and concise descriptions of all methods or procedures and materials used in the work. The Methods section should include specific methods used to prepare the data and the level of significance used for hypothesis testing. The Results ordinarily contain the data presented without extended discussion of their significance. The Discussion should be pertinent to the Results and as concise as possible within the limits of the ideas the authors wish to convey.
4.Letters and symbols in figures should be clear and of sufficient size to be legible after reduction to the width of one column on one page. Please note movie files are not acceptable. However, supplemental files which can be converted into PDF files may be submitted.
5.Authors should express all measurements with International System of Units (SI). Do not spell out numbers and standard units of measurement except at the beginning of sentences.
6.References must be numbered consecutively as they appear in the text and listed in the same numerical order at the end of the manuscript, and the number of References should be not exceed 50. List all authors when there are 6 or fewer: when there are 7 or more, list the first 3 followed by ",et al" in italics. The titles of journals should be abbreviated to the style used in Index Medicus(NLM Catalog: Journals referenced in the NCBI Databases). References should follow the system used in the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (ICMJE Recommendations).

Case Report
The introduction to the report, unlabeled, should provide the subject, purpose, and merit of the case report. Following the introduction, the case report should be organized with the following headings: Case Report, Discussion and, if necessary, Conclusion. The Case Report section should describe the case in chronological order and in enough detail to establish the conclusions about the case's validity. The Discussion section should evaluate the case for accuracy, validity, and uniqueness. It should include a comprehensive literature review, and compare and contrast the case report with the published literature. Please refer to the Instructions of Original Articles for reference style and other manuscript requirements.

Letter to the Editor / Author’s Reply
An opinion-letter concerning a manuscript which has been published in International Heart Journal is acceptable. The letter should be a maximum of 1,000 words in length. Please refer to the Instructions of Original Articles for reference style.

Review of Manuscripts: All manuscripts are evaluated by 2 reviewers assigned by the editors. Final acceptability is subject to review by the Editorial Committee.

Proof: A galley proof of accepted manuscripts and CTA form will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author. Corrections should be indicated on the proof and sent back to the International Heart Journal Association within 72 hours after receipt. The same deadline also applies to authors from outside Japan since they can send corrections by e-mail or fax.

Publication Cost: All manuscripts except for Letters published in International Heart Journal will be subject to a 150,000 Japanese Yen (JPY) publication fee. This covers all costs relating to publication of an accepted manuscript up to a total of 8 tables and figures, and 50 references. Additional charges are JPY 2,000 per table or figures, and JPY 2,000 per additional 50 references. Letters will be subject to a JPY 75,000 publication fee as of April 2023. Invited manuscripts will be exempt from these fees.

Reprints: Reprints will be available for a fee. The corresponding author should request reprints when they return the galley proof. (See 'Proof')
