Education

Core nursing classes (compulsory):

  • Introduction to Maternal and Pediatric Nursing
  • Methods in Maternal Nursing1,2
  • Maternal Nursing Practicum

In addition to core nursing classes taught jointly with all faculty members in the Department of Nursing, we are responsible for teaching classes related to maternity nursing and midwifery. We aim to foster the basic skills necessary for nursing competence regarding women in all life stages as well as mothers, infants and the whole family during pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood.

Midwifery course (elective):

  • Introduction to Midwifery
  • Methods in Midwifery 1-4
  • Midwifery Practicum 1-3

We are responsible for teaching classes related to midwifery. We aim to foster the fundamental abilities required to provide evidence-based support for mothers, infants and the whole family during the perinatal period. Students are also asked to consider the role and responsibilities of midwives to facilitate their ability to work autonomously as a professional after graduation.

Special-interest classes:

Together with all university faculty members, we are responsible for teaching special-interest classes. We aim to foster the fundamental abilities required by medical and health professionals engaged in community-based multidisciplinary care.

Social contribution

Training Program for Simulated Parturients:

Before clinical practice in midwifery, students participate in laboratorial training involving simulated parturients in order to acquire the ability to communicate with pregnant women and assess fetal condition. The Training Program for Simulated Parturients was developed as a joint research project involving Chiba Prefectural University of Health Sciences, Saitama Prefectural University, and Aomori Prefectural University of Health and Welfare in order to train prospective simulated parturients.
