Organizer FY2012-2015 Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) "Multifaceted international joint research on the validity and future vision of Japanese medical school entrance examinations" research group (Principal Investigator: Junji Otaki)
Collaboration with International Research Center for Medical Education, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo
Cooperation by Japan Society for Medical Education Enrollment Selection Committee
Background Since most of the new students in the medical school will become doctors in the future, the entrance examination (hereinafter referred to as the medical school entrance examination) will have a great impact on society. Educational inequality is becoming more serious as the inequality society becomes a major issue in Japan. It is extremely difficult to pass the current Japanese medical school entrance examination unless you are a high-ranking student at a preparatory school and can learn how to prepare for the entrance examination at a prep school. On the other hand, requests and interventions regarding medical school entrance examinations are becoming apparent, such as the introduction of a so-called "regional framework" that enrolls many applicants from areas where there is a shortage of doctors into medical schools and medical universities. Overseas, evaluations are conducted with an emphasis on indicators other than academic performance and the entrance examination system aimed at correcting educational disparities. There are few studies that have verified the validity of the evaluation method and acceptance criteria for this medical school entrance examination.
Purpose In order to examine the current situation and issues of medical school entrance examinations in Japan from an international perspective and to help explore the direction of reforms, we invite people familiar with medical school entrance examinations from home and abroad to share and discuss a wide range of information.
