C2C12 (Muscle myoblast, mouse)

ATCC CRL-177

Passage Frozen: Unknown. Current medium for propagation: Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium with 4.5 g/L glucose, 90%; FBS, 10%. Additional Information: The C2C12 is a subclone derived by H. Blau, et al., from the mouse myoblast cell line established by D. Yaffe and O. Saxel from normal adult C3H mouse leg muscle. The cell line differentiates rapidly and produces extensive contracting myotubes expressing characteristic muscle proteins. The clone provides an excellent model to study myogenesis in vitro and cell differentiation. References: Nature (Lond.) 270: 725-727, 1977; Science (Washington, DC) 230: 758-766, 1985.
