April 1970 The Japanese Cleft Palate Study Group was established. The Japanese Cleft Palate Speech Therapy Forum (established in 1961) was merged into the Study Group. Annual scientific meetings were held until June 1976.
April 1975 The Preparatory Committee for establishing an association was set up.
June 1976 The Japanese Cleft Palate Association (JCPA) was established. The JCPA's constitution and by-laws were drawn up. At the time, the JCPA had 293 members.
The JCPA's office was located within the First Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Osaka University.
August 1976 The Editorial Committee was established.
December 1976 The first issue of the Journal of Japanese Cleft Palate Association (vol. 1) was published.
April 1977 The first Annual Meeting of the JCPA was held in Tokyo.
November 1977 The JCPA was registered and approved as an academic association by the Science Council of Japan.
May 1978 The JCPA received an academic journal designation from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
July 1979 The Academic Subcommittee was established.@The Subcommittee initiated activities regarding literature collection, standardization of cleft palate classification, assessment criteria for cleft-palate speech, and social insurance.
January 1983 The office was moved to the Second Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Tokyo Dental College.
December 1983 The Academic Subcommittee reported the standardization of cleft palate classification in the journal:
Types of Facial Cleft: A Report from the Cleft Type Classification Committee Journal of Japanese Cleft Palate Association 1983; 8(2): 240-246.
January 1989 The office was moved to an Administrative Center for Academic Societies in Hitotsubashi Printing Co., Ltd.
June 1989 The Constitution and By-Laws Committee was established.
October 1989 The Academic Subcommittee was replaced by the Academic Committee.
October 1991 Cleft lip/cleft palate bibliography (1971-1990) was published as a special issue of the Journal of Japanese Cleft Palate Association (Vol. 16).
January 1993 The International Relations Committee was established.
July 2000 A nationwide survey on the incidence and treatment of cleft lip/cleft palate was initiated.
January 2001 The Academic Survey Committee and the Information Technology Committee were established.
January 2004 The Distinguished Paper Awards Committee and the Distinguished Poster Awards Committee were established.
October 2006 The Cleft Lip/Cleft Palate Handbook was published.
May 2007 The Japancleft Committee was established.
September 2007 A nationwide survey on the current situation of team care for patients with cleft lip/cleft palate was initiated.
August 2008 The limited liability intermediate corporation, the Japanese Cleft Palate Association (JCPA) was established.
December 2008 The JCPA was transformed into the Japanese Cleft Palate Association, a general incorporated association, following legal reforms.
"Treatment Plan for Cleft Lip/Cleft Palate: Current Situation in 111 Teams Nationwide" was issued.
April 2009 The JCPA sponsored a Goslon Yardstick Japan seminar.
May 2011 The Committee for Practice Guidelines was established.
May 2012 An article on the survey results for the treatment of cleft lip/cleft palate was published in a journal of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association:
Cleft Palate Craniofac 2012; J 49(3): 291-298.
July 2012 The JCPA hosted the 5-Year-Old Index seminar.
October 2012 JCPA membership reached 3,027 members.
January 2015 The JCPA hosted the Cleft Palate Language evaluation seminar.
May 2015 The Future Planning Committee was established.
February 2016 The Ethics Committee was established.
May 2016 The Certification System Committee was established.
February 2017 15th International Congress of Cleft Lip and Palate and Related Craniofacial Anomalies Kyoto was decided to be held in October in 2025.
May 2017 The International Congress Committee, the Overseas Training Promotion Committee, and the Certification Standards Committee were established.
