In response to the resquests of the members, we opened up a home page of JMGHAA,THE JAPAN MGH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
Made by an amateur, this page may not look too impressive.
Its functiion is limited as of this moment; we plan to gradually impove it, however. Thank you for your kind support.

    What is JMGHAA


    Idea

     -- Mutual Association of the Members plus to MGH.

    System

     -- Qualification: No special qualifying standards. Members consist of those spending many years in MGH and of visiting a few hours. As long as one agrees with the idea, he is wellcome.

    History

     -- Originally brought out from MGH-side in 1993. Established in May, 1994.
    Secretariat was stationed in the Department of the Emergency Medicine of Keio University. Professors Aikawa and Shinozawa put a great effort in establishing this organization in its incipient phase.
    -- Publication of Namelists
    The original namelist supplied by MGH was incomplete with no Japanese characters,
    but it was completed by the efforts of various people, including the Shiseido company,
    which supplied with generous support of printing and distributing them.
    Currently, no printed stocks are left and we do not plan to redo it for further distribution. We plan to keep this available by posting it on-line.
    --- Other activities
    In addition to the establishment meeting, we held two General Assemblies every 4 years at the time of the General Meeting of the Japan Medical Association.(Nagoya and Tokyo)
    We also held two additional meetings when few members of MGH visited Japan. All these meeting consisted of business meeting, lectures and a party.

    Newsletter

     --- Newsletter
    We began publishing Newsletter of JMGHAA. It was found, however, that it causes a great strain and requires too much effort of the secretary office, in obtaining material, in editing and in sending.
    We plan to abondon it altogether in the near future and to use this homepage instead.

    --- Secretariat
    Secretary office has been moving all the time. It originally located in Keio University, then briefly in Nihon University, onto San'ou Hospital ( Supported by Dr. Masanori Uchiyama). After the unexpected death of Dr. Uchiyama, I ( Kunio Suwa ) took over in Department of Anesthesia, Teikyo University Ichihara Hospital. When I moved to the Itabashi Hospital of the same University, the office also moved to Itabashi. I am to retire as of April, 2002. Professor Shin-ichi Watanabe will take over this position.

    --- Change in Environment including Economy
    This association was established originally with strong support of MGH-side. The environment and economy of the MGH special, and of Medicine in USA in general, however, has forced them to become less enthusiastic in this activity.
    The Shiseido-company is still helping us a great deal, but it is not immune from the economic recession and general re-structuring, either.
    We seriously discussed breaking this organization up. We concluded, however, that keeping it by electronic media requires very little amount of money and and relatively little energy compared with its provisional effect.
    So is this home page.

    Membership fee

     -- According to the bylaws of JMGHAA, fee is to be 10000 yen for a 4 year membership. The merit and advantage of the membership is quite questionable, therefore the payment is poor and erratic. Forcing the payment requires money and energy. We therefore plan not to collect any further membership fee, at least for the time being.
    Maintaining this homepage requires very little expense. I can use my own computor and time/energy.

    Bylaws
    --Bylaws was made in 1994. The part on the secretary was changed so that it suits the current status.

    BYLAWS OF THE JAPAN MGH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION


    (Name)

    This Association is called the Japan MGH Alumni Association(JMGHAA).

    (Objectives)

    The JGHAA shall promote mutual communication of the Association members and international exchanges with the MGH.

    (Activities)

    The JMGHAA shall hold general assembly meetings and seminars for academic exchange with the MGH.

    (Membership)

    Members of the JMGHAA shall agree with the objectives and activities of the Association and shall pay an individual membership fee.

    (Board of Directors)

    The Board of Directors shall consist of a chairman, three vice chairmen, an auditor, some faculty staff, honorary chairpersons and honorary faculty staff. The chairman shall preside over the activities of the JMGHAA

    (Membership Fee)

    \10,000 shall be paid in advance for a 4 year membership.

    (Secretariat)

    The secretariat shall be in the Teikyo University School of Medicine, 2-11-1 Kaga, Itabashi-ku, Tokyo, 173-8605 Japan. ( tel 81-3-3964-2575, fax 81-3-3963-2687).

    (Decisions)

    Decisions of the JMGHAA shall be made by the majority of members attending the general assembly meeting.

    (Changes of Bylaws)

    The bylaws may be changed by discussion and agreement at the general assembly meeting.

    Addendum: These bylaws became effective on May, 1994 in Tokyo.
