Program for Young Scientists

WCPG 2008 features the Program for Young Scientists, which consists of the Travel Award and the Young Science Track as described in detail below.

Both components are designed to provide an opportunity for young scientists to present and exchange their work and research ideas.

Young scientists are all welcome to apply for this program. Applicants should first register and submit an abstract through this website before June 25, 2008 and send the application by email by July 5th.

Please note that the application procedure and qualification requirements differ slightly depending on the component.

I. Travel Award

Young Scientists Travel scholarships are available from the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics for young investigators (student or post-doc).
Travel awardees will be entitled to attend the Awardee-Mentor Luncheon, where they will have the opportunity to meet and talk informally with a select number of mentors in a small group setting.
For more details, please click here.

II. Young Science Track

This year's meeting newly introduces a Young Science Track.
The Young Science Track is a forum for young scientists (up to age 35) to present their work in a formalized setting, i.e. an oral session and a guided poster session.

It is open to undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students.
Excellent oral presentations and poster presentations are selected for oral presentation and poster awards, respectively.
For more details, please click here.

Travel Award

Through grants from the NIMH, NIAAA, and NIDA, around 50 Travel Awards can be sponsored this year. The Travel Awards are meant to provide financial support to attend the meeting. 40 awards are reserved for researchers in psychiatric genetics in general, including the genetics of drug abuse. 6 (or possibly more) awards are reserved for researchers on alcohol abuse genetics.

Young Science Track

This track is open to undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students.

Those who wish to apply for this track should select which type of session they would like to be considered for.

Oral presentation and poster awards will be given to excellent presenters within the Young Science Track.

A. Oral session

We will have 3 oral sessions within the newly introduced Young Science Track.

The goal of this new session type is to give a forum to outstanding work by young scientists that qualifies for an oral presentation but might not necessarily fit into the topics covered by the traditional oral sessions.

B. Guided poster session

Similarly, we will have a guided poster session for the work of young researchers.
