Food
Intake
Not only is food intake an important factor, but the quantity and
quality of food has been shown
to aid in the healing process of pressure ulcers. Since eating is
a cognitive function, it has been
shown that patients who are able to feed themselves are less
likely to develop pressure ulcers.
If the oral intake of conventional food is restricted, easily
digestible commercial food products
along with vitamin supplements can be given.
Dysphagia
Dysphagic patients suffer a pharyngeal disorder have difficulty in
swallowing.
Since oral intake of food is important try moistening the food with
water, or a liquid supplement.
If the patient still has difficulty swallowing, use semi-solid food
such as jelly, pudding, etc.,
or liquid supplements such as Tromelin, Sanken Lacti, or other similar
products.
