Announcement
of J-PEM2000
Following
two Pilot studies of J-PEM on troglitazone (1997`) and losartan (1998`),
a new scheme named as "J-PEM2000" will be inaugurated from late
2000 where
1) J-PEM studies are supported and sponsored by the Japan Pharmaceutical
Association (JPA), Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacies (JSHP), and
Japan Medical Association Research Institute (JMARI), as in J-PEM pilot
studies,
2) two or more J-PEM studies are conducted simultaneously; in each J-PEM
study, two or more new drugs with the same major indication may be monitored
at the same time as "test drugs",
3) a computer software is developed and distributed to medical institutions
and pharmacies where patient ID codes are registered; it will use electronic
data stored in each institution and make a list of candidate patients whose
ID code may be registered; it will also help data acquisition (e.g., data
on co-prescribed drugs) in each institution, and
4) the protocol will be evaluated by an authentic ethics review board organized
specifically for J-PEM studies.
Department of Pharmacoepidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of
Tokyo will be responsible for J-PEM2000 as in J-PEM pilot studies. However,
a new NPO (non-profitable organization) will be organized to register patient
ID codes, issue questionnaires, code events reported in J-PEM.
Details will be shown in this website when more information becomes available.
