Northern Light over Kiruna, Sweden (Dec. 26, 2000)

Northern Light can be seen in northern Sweden from late September to early April. These pictures were taken at the suburb of Kiruna, as the artificial lights in the town prevent a good sight of it. I drove west on the highway E10 by a rent-a-car, as the area around Abisko is one of the best place to see it, as higher possibility for clear sky can be expected. The Northern Light start to appear around 8 or 9 pm, and one hour later, there can be a dynamic show that is called a "break down", but this last only 5 to 10 minuites. It is important to watch out the sky at dark place frequently in order to avoid missing it.

It was a really magnificiant view, though it was extremely cold at -35 degree Celsius.
