The 30 Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicologic Pathology
Keisuke Izumi, MD, PhD. President of the 30th Annual Meeting of JSTP

Toxicologic pathology is known to play an important role in the risk assessment of environmental chemicals. Despite the extraordinary advances in molecular biology and genome information of various animals, it is still hard to extrapolate these findings to humans. It is the duty of toxicologic pathologists to translate the information obtained by new technologies into conventional morphology. The theme for this year’s meeting is “Environment and Cancer: Role of Toxicologic Pathology”. Recently, bile duct cancer in young workers who use organic solvents has become a serious social issue in Japan. Toxicologic pathologists must be involved in this problem. This year’s meeting coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of our society and we would like to reflect on the past and consider the future of the society. I am expecting challenging subjects from young investigators. Lastly, we would like to express our appreciation for the outstanding efforts of the program committee members and financial support from the corporations.
