Sendai is located to the Pacific Ocean side at 300 km north of Tokyo. It takes about 2 hours from Tokyo by Tohoku-Shinkansen (bullet train) and 1 or 2 hours from most other cities in Japan by air.
Several choice of transportation to Sendai for foreign participants are available as follows.
(1)New Tokyo International Airport (Narita; NRT) to Japan Railway (JR) Sendai Station
Most airlines arrive at Narita (New Tokyo International Airport). However, there is no direct flight between Narita and Sendai. From Narita Airport, it is convenient to take the "Narita Express" (express train of JR) to Tokyo Station (60 min; normal ticket :\1,280 + express ticket :\1,660). You can also take the "Airport Narita" (rapid train of JR) to Tokyo Station (90 min; normal ticket :\1,280). At Tokyo Station, you then transfer to the Tohoku Shinkansen (bullet train) called "Yamabiko" and/or "Komachi" departing from tracks 22 or 23 (normal ticket :\5,780 + express ticket :\4,300 for the free seat and \4,810 for the reserved). It takes about 120 min to JR Sendai Station.
For traveling on express train or on bullet train, two tickets are required the express ticket and normal ticket. Be sure that you have both before getting in those trains. We advise you to ask for a normal ticket directly from Narita to Sendai in order to save money.

(2) Kansai International Airport to Sendai Airport
You can also take an international flight to Kansai International Airport (KIX), and then directly transfer to a domestic flight to Sendai Airport (4 flights a day). Alternatively, you can move from KIX to Osaka Airport (ITM) by shuttle bus (80 min, \1,700) and then take a domestic flight to Sendai (7 or 8 flights a day).
(3) International Flight to Sendai Airport
There are also several international flights arriving directly at Sendai from Seoul, Honolulu, Guam, Talien, Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
