Welcome Message

The 21st Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Pediatric Interventional Cardiology
Jan 21-23, 2010
Shizuoka Convention & Art Center “Granship”, Shizuoka, Japan

From the Chair
Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to attend the 21st JPIC Annual Scientific Meeting which will be held at Shizuoka Convention & Art Center “Granship”, Shizuoka, Japan between Jan 21 and 23, 2010.

The JPIC annual meeting was started as a small conference in 1990, and currently we have more than 600 members in the whole country. The meeting had been held once a year and it has evolved during this two decades along with the development of technologies of catheter intervention. I feel that this field has very much matured, and I hope the success of this meeting will lead to further progress in the next 20 years. The program of this year will be focused on long-term quality of catheter intervention, and we are eager to expand the discussion on the following cores; “Indication, Efficacy, and Safety based on Long-term Perspectives”.

On the 1st day, we would like you to join in live demonstrations from several cathlabs. So far, the live demonstrations had been performed in 1993 (Chair Dr Monma, Tokyo Women’s College, Tokyo) and in 2003 (Chair Dr Echigo, National Cardiovascular Center, Osaka). This year we are planning to give an exquisite opportunity especially for young fellows to experience the vibrant atmosphere in cathlabs, which will be much more informative than video conference.

We will invite two outstanding catheter interventionists as guest speakers from Asia, Dr. Jae Young Choi (Yonsei University Cardiovascular Center, Seoul Korea) and Dr. Mazeni Alwi (National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), both of whom were invited to the Mt. Fuji Forum held in Shizuoka in March 2009.

Another focus we want to share for discussion is the multidisciplinary approach for catheter intervention. It is crucial to have cooperation especially with cardiovascular surgeons and anesthesiologists. The program will provide symposia and educational lectures related to multidisciplinary collaboration.

We have been arranging the contents to meet your all of your demands with comfort and convenience - we hope you find it fulfilling, enjoyable and an educational.
January is the best season to see Mt. Fuji covered with snow. I believe the beautiful and magnificent landscape from the conference center will captivate all the participants.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Shizuoka.

Sincerely,

Yasuo Ono, MD

Chair, The 21st Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Pediatric Interventional Cardiology
