Dear Colleagues, Despite rapid advances in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, brain edema is still a major threat to patients' lives in the neurological/neurosurgical ward. Since brain edema is a multifactorial process associated with most brain tissue injuries, holding a symposium for researchers and clinicians from different fields of neuroscience is most important. We are preparing special lectures and sessions, the foci of which include such diverse topics as the history of modern neuroscience (presented by Igor Klatzo), radiotherapy-related edema, new therapeutic strategies, and cutting-edge neuroimaging technology. The proceedings book "Brain Edema XII" will be published by Springer-Verlag Wien six months after the symposium. We are looking forward to seeing you in Hakone. Please join our symposium for lively discussions and enjoy the truly colorful autumn in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Japan.
With kind regards,
