The following information is current as of April 2001 and is subject to change.

Flying directly to Kansai International Airport is recommended as the most convenient and economical means of accessing Awaji Island from abroad. From there, the Conference site "Awaji Yumebutai (Awaji Dream Stage) International Conference Center" can be reached by the following means:

Express Boat and Shuttle Bus from Kansai International Airport
  1. Participants can catch a ferry shuttle directly to Tsuna Port (40 minutes, non-reserved seat only, 2,500 JPYAdeparts once daily) or Sumoto Port (45 minutes, non-reserved seat only, several departures daily) on Awaji Island. From Tsuna Port, a local bus departs for the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center (30 minutes, 740 JPY) From Sumoto Port, a local bus departs for the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center (60 minutes, 740 JPY, bus departure times coincide with the arrival of the ferry).
JR Railways and Bus from Kansai International Airport
  1. A JR (Japan Rail) express train Haruka to JR Shin-Osaka Station is available at the airport. From JR Shin-Osaka Station, connect to JR Shin-Kobe Station via the Shinkansen (Bullet Train). There catch an express bus bound for the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center. Also, from JR Shin-Osaka Station a limited express train stopping at JR Sannomiya Station can be caught. From JR Sannomiya Station, participants may either catch the express bus bound for the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center, or catch a train stopping at JR Maiko Station, which depart every fifteen minutes. From JR Maiko Station, participants can reach the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center in 20 minutes by highway bus, enjoying the sight of the sea as they cross over the Akashi Straits Bridge on the way. (travel time: 130 minutes, total fare 2,650 JPY).
Participants arriving at the New Tokyo International Airport (Narita) can choose from the three following alternatives:

New Tokyo International Narita Airport Osaka (Itami) Airport JR Sannomiya Station (by bus) Bus to Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center
  1. Take a domestic flight from New Tokyo International Narita Airport to Osaka (Itami) Airport. Flights are limited. From Osaka (Itami) Airport, take the airport limousine bus that departs from the airport every 20 minutes, to JR Sannomiya Station. From JR Sannomiya Station, a one-hour bus ride takes you to the Awaji Yumebutai Conference Center via the Akashi Straits Bridge (Travel Time from Osaka (Itami) Airport: 90 minutes, total fare: 1,920 JPY).
New Tokyo International Narita Airport Haneda International Airport Osaka (Itami) Airport follow instructions #3 to Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center
  1. An airport limousine bus from Narita to Tokyo Haneda International Airport (65 minutes; 3,000 JPY), where up to eight flights a day connect with Osaka (Itami) Airport (55 minutes; standard fare 18,500 JPY). From there follow the same means as described in scenario "3" above.
New Tokyo International Narita Airport JR Tokyo Station Shin Kobe Station (by Shinkansen Bullet Train) Bus to Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center
  1. Direct train service (Narita Airport Express) to JR Tokyo Station (90 minutes; 2,940 JPY) where the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) for Shin-Kobe departs frequently, reaching the station in 3h 20min (15,240 JPY). From Shin-Kobe Station on the Shinkansen line, it is a one-hour bus ride to the Awaji Yumebutai Conference Center via the Akashi Straits Bridge (900 JPY).
