Short Biography:
Dr. Tetsuro Matano obtained Doctor of Medical Science at Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo in 1994. He started his study on AIDS pathogenesis using monkey AIDS models at NIAID, NIH, and presented crucial evidence indicating the importance of CTL responses in immunodeficiency virus control. He has been a Professor at Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo since 2006 and the Director at AIDS Research Center, NIID since 2010. He has established a unique AIDS model using MHC-defined rhesus macaques for analysis of HIV/SIV-specific CTL responses and developed a novel CTL-based AIDS vaccine system using Sendai viral vectors whose clinical trial project is now proceeding in collaboration with International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and DNAVEC corporation.
