AMSAとは？

1985年にAMSA（アジア医学生連絡協議会、 Asian Medical Students' Association）は正式に発足され、
現在では22の国・地域（オーストラリア、バングラデッシュ、 カンボジア、香港、インドネシア、日本、韓国、マレーシア、
ネパール、パキスタン、フィリピン、台湾、タイ、 パプアニューギニア、イギリス、中国、ネパール、モンゴル、ニュージーランド、トルコetc）が参加しています。
アジア各国の医学生と共にアジアの保健医療の向上を目指し、 ヒューマンネットワークを作りあげていくことを目標としています。
What's AMSA Japan？
We, AMSA Japan, are a member organization of
AMSA International, which was founded in 1985.
Currently, there are 22 member organizations of AMSA in various Asian countries,
and their members, the medical students, are united through this organization network to
promote understanding in medical and health problems globally,
to foster unity and promote profound inter-personal relationships amongst its members
and to encourage cooperation among future doctors in Asia and Oceania.
AMSA Japan consists of more than 250 local medical students,
and especially 31 AMSA Japan Executive Committee members who are centrally involved
in its management.
AMSA Japan establishes activicities both locally and globally
through organizing local assemblies, forming a network with other medical students' organizations,
and most importantly, participating actively in international AMSA conferences, which are held twice a year.
～AMSAの歴史紹介～

活動の原点は、1979年のカンボジア難民に日本の医学生グループ、西日本アジア医学生連絡協議会から派遣された医師一人（菅波茂先生）と医学生二人の活動までさかのぼります。
その頃カンボジア難民救援に世界中から援助団体が駆けつけている様子が日本のマスメディアで報道され、同じアジアの日本の動向が世界から注目されていました。
西日本アジア医学生連絡協議会とは、西日本の医科大学のアジアに関連するサークルの連絡会で、「同じアジアの医学生としてカンボジア難民にできることはないか」という各医科大学のサークルの代表の総意で、派遣された医師・医学生のチームでした。
しかし、実際にはまったく活動することができませんでした。カンボジアからタイに難民が流入しているという報道を頼りにタイに入ったチームは、キャンプの位置さえ知りませんでした。やっとキャンプにたどりついても、受け入れて活動させてくれる受け皿がありませんでした。当然歓迎されるものとしてカンボジアに赴いたにもかかわらず、まったく活動ができなかったというチームの報告は、西日本アジア医学生連絡協議会で驚きをもって迎えられました。
この経験から、情報と受け皿がなければ、善意だけでは何もできないという教訓を受け、医学生の時代にアジア各国の医学生と友人関係を広げて、情報収集や受け皿になってくれる拠点をつくり、その人間関係を活用すれば、将来アジアで医療協力活動ができるのではないかと考えられたのです。
それから、カンボジアを基点に、具体的な活動実績をあげ始めた日本の他のNGOを横目で見ながら、友人関係づくりのための国際会議が毎年続けて開催されました。
1980年、アジアの医学生が将来の夢を語り合う場としてアジア医学生国際会議が開催され、次いで、東日本アジア医学生連絡協議会が設立されました。そしてこのときに西日本と東日本を統一したアジア医学生連絡協議会（AMSA）が活動を開始したのです。

ARTICLE II - OBJECTIVES
Section 1. To promote understanding in medical and health problems as well as to share experience in solving them.
Section 2. To promote the interest and welfare of medical students in Asia.
Section 3. To foster unity and promote profound inter-personal relationships amongst its members.
Section 4. To uphold humanitarian ideals and medical ethics.
Section 5. To encourage cooperation among future doctors in Asia and Oceania.
