NOVEL TARGETING FOR THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION IN STROKE
PAY: 19,482-20,465 STERLING POUNDS PER YEAR
This project involves the recent identification of novel proteins which are specifically up-regulated during cerebral ischaemia (stroke). The aim of the project is to show that these proteins are of therapeutic significance and that they can be used as targets to limit brain damage associated with stroke. The project will assess: i) The therapeutic potential of the proteins per se following delivery by a virulent herpes simplex virus and ii) Their use as targets for small molecule intervention. The focus is on strategic development of first line treatments. The applicants should have a strong background in vivo and in vitro models of ischaemic damage and/or molecular biology with particular emphasis on virus vector development. These are Scottish Executive, Scottish Enterprise funded posts for 2 years in the first instance and will be based at the Institute of Neurological Sciences and The Wellcome Surgical Institute, Glasgow. Immediate start.
